Do’s and Don’ts when Using Your Artificial Grass

Using artificial grass means there are certain things you should do and shouldn’t do. Learn the various do’s and don’ts when using your artificial grass.

Your artificial lawn opens up a new world of outdoor activities. Since it’s fake, you don’t have to worry about damaging it since it will adapt to whatever you need. However, there are certain things you need to do and things you need to avoid when using your artificial lawn.

Synthetic grass can withstand various types of punishment. However, the constant impact can wear it down faster. So if you want your synthetic turf to last for decades, here are some do’s and don’ts when using it:

  • Clean your artificial lawn before using it.
  • Remove leaves and other debris from your artificial lawn. The best way is with a leaf blower. Make sure you have one, especially if your lawn features trees and leafy plants.
  • Use a broom or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt on your artificial grass.
  • Take advantage of the velcro straps that come with artificial grass when you need to move it.
  • When outlining specific areas of play, make sure you use removable turf paint.
  • Using artificial grass as a sports field for games like football, soccer or baseball, opt for an untreated synthetic turf instead of fake grass. It’s made for high-quality materials that help it last long despite the heavy punishment.
  • Check for any damage or tears to the blades and repair them with a blade sealant.
  • Make sure you water artificial grass regularly, especially in dry climates where it won’t rain often.

  • Don’t allow heavy animals to walk on your turf. It will increase wear and tear from the weight.
  • Avoid pressure washing synthetic grass since this can cause a lot of damage as well. The best way to clean it is with soap and water, which you should do regularly anyway for hygiene purposes.
  • Don’t leave any pet waste on your artificial grass. If it’s pet urine, remove it using water. It’s pet waste; wait until it dries before scraping it using a broom.
  • Don’t use any type of acid, chemical or fertilizer on synthetic turf because this will ruin it and increase mould growth. Plus, artificial ones don’t need any chemicals for maintenance anyway.
  • Avoid using a rake to clean up leaves in your lawn, as that can damage blades too much.
  • Don’t wear or carry sharp objects when on your artificial lawn.
  • Avoid using your lawn as a sports field for games like football, soccer or baseball because these types of activities will damage blades too much over time. If this is what you want to do, then get untreated synthetic turf instead!
  • Kids can be rough on your lawn too! Ensure they are supervised and that their activities don’t involve running with sharp objects such as sticks, rocks or knives, so you avoid damaging the blades in the long run.
